Bedford Boys ice hockey team, in less than 2 years since entering NHIAA Division I program, won the State Title on March 19th at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  Capping off a 16-2-0 season with 9 shutouts, and never letting in more than 2 goals in any single game, the Bulldogs had the highest amount of "goals for" at 102, and lowest "goals against" at 14. But there was one team that had a better game record.  Bishop Guertin was undefeated in the State (18-0-0), and boasted many senior players. Bedford took home the title with a stunning game performance and a score of 4-3. Goals were not easy to come by, and BG came out screaming with a goal 34 seconds into the game. Bedford answered with a goal by Grffin Gagne, assisted by Jay Roberto.  BG came back with a goal with 7:32 left in the first period. The first period ended Bedford down 2-1, but out-shooting BG 15-7.  In the second period, the Bulldogs tied up the score at 2-2 with a goal by Nate John, assisted by Tyler Gamble. Bedford then went ahead with a goal by Jake Rioux, assisted by Jay Roberto to bring the score to 3-2.  BG Cardinals then scored with 3:02 in the second to tie the game at 3 a piece. After killing off a penalty that occured at 2:28, Bedford was rewarded with a powerplay and a payoff with a goal by Jay Roberto with 5 seconds left in the period. Going into the third period with a score of 4-3 Bedford played a lockdown game, and Goalie Erik Voloshin fended off a few close ones, but BGs late game penalty and pulling of their goalie was unsuccessful. The team, with their golden mullets, celebrated a great win over a very tough opponent and proved that hockey in Bedford is strong and ready for a very bright future.
